The Olympic Charter adopted by the International
Olympic Committe (IOC) and Pierre Coubertin, its first president and
mentor of the modern day rivaval of the Olympic tradition, explicitly
calls for the organisation of Art Competitions at the Games, in five
categories. The 1924 Olympics in Paris saw the highpoint of all the
art competitions, with Béla Bartók, Igor Stravinsky among the judges
for musical entries. In the art competitions of 1924, there were 193
participators from 24 countries, among them Alfréd Hajós and Dezső
(Desider) Lauber from Hungary.
