A "Pentathlon of the Muses"1, F-L-O-W [Future-Linked-On-Water] is a floating art-exhibition, revitalising the cultural heritage of the Olympic Art tradition. F-L-O-W creates a link between contemporary arts and the world of sports. Through its unconventional edifice, the new and creative medium of F-L-O-W is able to communicate its message to a wide segment of the public.
1 Pierre Coubertin (1863-1937), Initiator and first term President of the International Olympic Committee, Olympic Charter, Paris 1894
For F-L-O-W 2006, the transcontinental corridor of the Rhine-Main-Danube riverway will turn into a multicultural platform. Showcasing contemporary artworks by artists from all European states, this unique exhibition-on-river flows through many regions of Western, Central and South Eastern Europe (Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia and Montenegro, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine). In collaboration with local municipalities, F-L-O-W will make stops at larger towns and historical landmarks. F-L-O-W's group of international curators will commission large-scale outdoor works of art to be created in different categories under the theme of "Harmony between Body and Spirit"2.
2 Alfréd Hajós (1878-1955) Olympic Champion Athlete and Artist, Athens 1896 - Swimming and Paris 1924 - Architecture, manuscript of diary 1955, HAS, Budapest
Following venues in Amsterdam, Arnhem, Cologne, Bonn, Frankfurt, Regensburg, Vienna, Bratislava, to name a few, F-L-O-W's highlights will coincide with the 2006 World Soccer Championships in Germany, and at the "heart of the Danube" on Budapest's Margaret Island, the 28th European Swimming Championships, held at the Hajós Alfréd Aquatic Stadium. F-L-O-W will then travel on through Vukovar, Novi Sad, Belgrade, Russe etc. towards its final stop at the Black Sea. Through its manifestations in 2006 and thereafter, the Hajós Alfréd Society's F-L-O-W project promotes cultural diversity, dialogue and co-operation among all peoples of the continent, raising public awareness of the vast cultural heritage and the environmentally friendly, socio-economic potential represented by the inland waterways of Europe.
