►►► HAJÓS ALFRÉD MEMORIAL CONCERT (November 12, 2005)
MEMORY
Hajós Alfréd [or Alfred Hajos in English, born Arnold Guttmann, Budapest, 01.02.1878-12.11.1955] was an athlete and architect, whose historically unique achievement was winning the Olympics in both sports and arts. Hajós was the first ever Olympic Champion in swimming (Athens, 1896) as well as Hungary's first Olympic gold medallist. Hajós was also among the founders of Hungarian soccer. Later in life, he became the only Olympic Champion athlete ever to win an Olympic Art Competition, as well (Paris, 1924, in architecture). He became a prolific and highly influential architect of many sporting facilities, residential and public buildings in both Hungary and elsewhere. The Society's motto is taken from his diary: "...harmony between body and spirit..."
